it may be hard to swallow; but this was the number one album fifteen years ago. it had six hit singles and is one of the best-selling albums of all time, falling between sgt. pepper and led zeppelin iv.
the cathartic nature of the album was a necessity for morissette, who was robbed at gunpoint as the recording was just getting started. therapy and hospitalization did not help with her daily panic attacks and the intense angst she felt. producer glen ballard encouraged her to put it all into the music.

'you outta know' was the wild banshee howl that catapulted alanis to super-stardom. although it never was released as a single, it received so much airplay that it sent the album to the top of the charts. it also features flea and dave navarro on bass and guitar, who appeared during the overdub sessions and offered to play on the song.
this is the unedited (with the f-word) album version of the song with the lyrics:
"swallow it down (what a jagged little pill)":
"we'll love you just the way you are if you're perfect":
'Jagged Little Pill'
