nina simone sings the blues

The High Priestess of Soul simplified things as she made the move to a new label with this raw and raucous emotional exploration. 'Nina Simone Sings the Blues' was her first album after she made the move from Phillips to RCA Records. Producer Danny Davis provides a more open sound that puts Simone's voice at the center of things, where it belongs. The band included the rhythm section of Bob Bushnell and Bernard "Pretty" Purdie, Ernie Hayes on organ, Buddy Lucas on harmonica and saxophone, and guitarists Eric Gale and Rudy Stevenson. Simone embodies the blues as she interprets these songs with grace and guts.
