still crazy after all these years

Paul Simon took the pain and despair of his divorce from his first wife Peggy Harper and channeled it into his music.

The dark and somber subject matter is beautifully balanced with hope and a wry sense of humor that are all wrapped in a smooth jazz wrapper. The result is a bittersweet rumination on life, love, and the way we fumble through our relationships and somehow manage to have a good time. The easy listening adult contemporary vibe is crazy for grown ups.

'Still Crazy After All These Years' went to number one, yielding four top forty hits and winning a Grammy for Album of the Year.

“I was staying in a Manhattan hotel.... I was pretty depressed, just sitting and looking out the window. That’s all I used to do.... ‘Now I sit by my window and I watch the cars. I fear I'll do some damage one fine day; but I would not be convicted by a jury of my peers...

I met my old lover
On the street last night
She seemed so glad to see me
I just smiled
And we talked about some old times
And we drank ourselves some beers
Still crazy after all these years
Oh Still crazy after all these years

I'm not the kind of man
Who tends to socialize
I seem to lean on
Old familiar ways
And I ain't no fool for love songs
That whisper in my ears
Still crazy after all these years
Oh still crazy after all these years

Four in the morning
Crapped out
Yawning
Longing my life away
I'll never worry
Why should I?
It's all gonna fade

Now I sit by my window
And I watch the cars
I fear I'll do some damage
One fine day
But I would not be convicted
By a jury of my peers
Still crazy after all these years
Oh still crazy
Still crazy
Still crazy after all these years

Although they had played concerts together, 'My Little Town' was the first time that Simon and Garfunkel recorded in the studio together since the 'Bridge Over Troubled Water' album. It was also included on Garfunkel's 'Breakaway'.

"And after it rains, there's a rainbow
and all of the colours are black.
It's not that the colours aren't there.
It's just imagination they lack."

"Some folks lives roll easy; some folks lives never roll at all."

The gospel stomp of 'Gone at Last' was originally recorded as a duet with Phoebe Snow.

"I've had a long string of bad luck, but I'm praying it's gone at last."
