it's now or never

Today's super groovy delicious bite is a bit of Neopolitan to cleanse the palate after yesterday's meal.

The king had his biggest international hit single with this reconstituted remake of Tony Martin's 'There's No Tomorrow', which took its melody from the classic Canzone Napoletana 'O Sole Mio'. While stationed in Germany, Elvis heard Martin's song and even made his own version; but when he was discharged he asked that new lyrics be written for him. It made it to the top of the US charts in the summer of 1960; but it's release was delayed in the UK. The anticipation led to such a large number of advance orders that the song made its debut at number one. In 2005, it was re-released in the UK and made it to the top spot again.

Barry White claimed that he heard this song on the radio while he was in prison in 1960 and was inspired to give up his gang affiliation and focus on a musical career.

It's now or never,
Come hold me tight
Kiss me my darling,
Be mine tonight
Tomorrow will be too late,
It's now or neverMy love wont wait.

When I first saw you
With your smile so tender
My heart was captured,
My soul surrendered
I'd spend a lifetime
Waiting for the right time
Now that your near
The time is here at last.

It's now or never,
Come hold me tight
Kiss me my darling,
Be mine tonight
Tomorrow will be too late,
It's now or neverMy love wont wait.

Just like a willow,
We would cry an ocean
If we lost true love
And sweet devotion
Your lips excite me,
Let your arms invite me
For who knows when
Well meet again this way

It's now or never,
Come hold me tight
Kiss me my darling,
Be mine tonight
Tomorrow will be too late,
It's now or neverMy love wont wait.
