o brother, where are thou?

The Coen Brothers' epic film 'O Brother, Where Art Thou?' took us back home to Appalachia. The film was loosely based on Homer's Odyssey; but set in Mississippi in the Great Depression. T-Bone Burnett produced the soundtrack which features new versions of classic bluegrass, gospel, country, and blues music from that time period. It sold more than seven million copies, won a Grammy for Album of the Year, and introduced a whole new generation to American folk music.

Alison Krauss & Gillian Welch performed the classic hymnal "I'll Fly Away".

"I am a Man of Constant Sorrow" won the Grammy Award for Best Country Collaboration with Vocals. The voices of the "Soggy Bottom Boys" are bluegrass musicians: Union Station's Dan Tyminski, Nashville songwriter Harley Allen, and the Nashville Bluegrass Band's Pat Enright.

'Didn't Leave Nobody but the Baby (Go to Sleep Little Baby)' was performed by Gillian Welch, Alison Krauss, & Emmylou Harris.

'Big Rock Candy Mountains' as recorded by Harry McClintock in 1928 was a vintage track that was used in the film.

Tim Blake Nelson sang the vocals for this rendition of 'In the Jailhouse Now'.

Ralph Stanley won the Grammy Award for Best Male Country Vocal Performance for his rendition of 'O Death'.
