stumblin' in

Chris Norman and Suzi Quatro lit a flame from within and laid their hearts on the table for this foolish folk rock ballad.

American born Quatro had played congas with her father's band The Art Quatro Trio and bass in The Pleasure Seekers with her two sisters Arlene and Patti, which became Cradle after Patti left to be replaced by another sister, Nancy.  She was offered record deals from Elektra Records and Mickie Most's new RAK Records.  Quatro says:  "According to the Elektra president, I could become the new Janis Joplin. Mickie Most offered to take me to England and make me the first Suzi Quatro—I didn't want to be the new anybody...I was the first rock 'n' roll successful female who led a band of men and seriously played an instrument.  It hasn't been done since either."

Most  nurtured her leather clad rock image to help her become a sensation in England and Australia with massive hard-driving hits like 'Can the Can', '48 Crash', 'Devil Gate Drive', and 'The Wild One', all written by the songwriting team of Mike Chapman and Nikki Chinn.

British born Norman and his band Smokie had found their way to Most's RAK as well and had more moderate success with folk rock songs penned by Chapman and Chinn like 'If You Think You Know How to Love Me''Don't Play Your Rock And Roll To Me', 'Lay Back in the Arms of Someone', and 'Living Next Door to Alice'.    Norman says:   "We were a good band and been together since school. We had a good harmony thing like Crosby, Stills & Nash with the three main singers in the band. We were a band that had been used to playing. We were lucky enough to get some good songs and made some good records, the band for the right time. We came around with the glam bands like the Sweet, but we were guys in jeans singing harmony songs with acoustic guitars. We kinda didn’t fit in at first and we thought we weren’t going to make it."

Quatro sought a more folk oriented sound for her album 'If You Knew Suzi...', which brought her together with Norman for the duet 'Stumblin' In', which was once again written by the Chinn/Chapman production team.  At the same time, her profile in the US was raised by her recurring role as Leather Tuscadero on the hit television show 'Happy Days'.   'Stumblin' In' was included on American and Canadian pressings of the album and became an international success; going to number forty-one in the UK, four in the US, and number two in Australia.  It remains the biggest hit for both artists in the US, making them a unique set of one hit wonder twins.

Our love is alive and so we begin
Foolishly layin' our hearts on the table, stumblin' in
Our love is a flame burnin' within
Now and then fire light will catch us stumblin' in.

Wherever you go, whatever you do
You know these reckless thoughts of mine are followin' you
I've fallen for you, whatever you do
'Cause baby you've shown me so many things that I never knew

Whatever it takes, baby, I'll do it for you

Our love is alive and so we begin
Foolishly layin' our hearts on the table, stumblin' in
Our love is a flame burnin' within
Now and then fire light will catch us stumblin' in.

You were so young and I was so free
I may have been young but baby, that's not what I wanted to be
Well you were the one, oh why was it me?
'Cause baby you've shown me so many things that I'd never knew

Whatever you need, baby, you got it from me

Our love is alive and so we begin
Foolishly layin' our hearts on the table, stumblin' in
Our love is a flame burnin' within
Now and then fire light will catch us stumblin' in.
