The Beach Boys got around their family management and rush recorded this seasoned surf rock severance. The band had begun working on 'All Summer Long' in October of 1963 with most of the work done in April and May of 1964. Songwriter and producer Brian Wilson had wanted to take extra time on the album; but the record label pushed him to finish so they could compete with the British Invasion sweeping the nation. The sessions took place at United Western Recorders in Los Angeles, California with Al Jardine on harmony and backing vocals, bass guitar; Mike Love on lead, harmony and backing vocals, hand claps; Brian Wilson on production; lead, harmony and backing vocals; piano, organ, keyboard, Baldwin harpsichord; and marimba; Carl Wilson on harmony and backing vocals; lead guitar; Dennis Wilson on lead, harmony and backing vocals; drums; with Hal Blaine on timbales; Chuck Britz as engineer; Steve Douglas on tenor saxophone; Jay Migliori on baritone saxophone; and Ray Pohlman on bass guitar.
During the recording of 'I Get Around' the band fired father and manager Murry Wilson. Brian Wilson would later reveal: "He's really grooving now - grooving great. But it didn't work as manager. We love the family thing – y'know: three brothers, a cousin and a friend is a really beautiful way to have a group – but the extra generation can become a hang-up".
'All Summer Long' went to number four on the US album chart and became their last album to focus on the beach and surf culture.

'I Get Around' became the band's first US number one single.
Round round get around
I get around
Yeah
Get around round round I get around
I get around
Get around round round I get around
From town to town
Get around round round I get around
I'm a real cool head
Get around round round I get around
I'm makin' real good bread
I'm gettin' bugged driving up and down the same old strip
I gotta finda new place where the kids are hip
My buddies and me are getting real well known
Yeah, the bad guys know us and they leave us alone
I get around
Get around round round I get around
From town to town
Get around round round I get around
I'm a real cool head
Get around round round I get around
I'm makin' real good bread
Get around round round I get around
I get around
Round
Get around round round oooo
Wah wa ooo
Wah wa ooo
Wah wa ooo
We always take my car cause it's never been beat
And we've never missed yet with the girls we meet
None of the guys go steady cause it wouldn't be right
To leave their best girl home now on Saturday night
I get around
Get around round round I get around
From town to town
Get around round round I get around
I'm a real cool head
Get around round round I get around
I'm makin' real good bread
Get around round round I get around
I get around
Round
Ah ah ah ah ah ah ah ah
Round round get around
I get around
Yeah
Get around round round I get around
Get around round round I get around
Wah wa ooo
Get around round round I get around
Oooo ooo ooo
Get around round round I get around
Ahh ooo ooo
Get around round round I get around
Ahh ooo ooo
Get around round round I get around
Ahh ooo ooo
