it's a man's man's man's world

The Godfather of Soul got downright biblical with this smoldering reflection on our mad, mad, mad, mad world. James Brown wrote 'It's a Man's Man's Man's World' with Betty Jean Newsome; and it developed over several years with different takes on the song. The definitive version was recorded in February of 1966, with his touring band and a string section, and released as a single in April. It became his fourth R&B number one and his third top ten hit.

This is a man's world, this is a man's world
But it wouldn't be nothing, nothing without a woman or a girl

You see, man made the cars to take us over the road
Man made the trains to carry heavy loads
Man made electric light to take us out of the dark
Man made the boat for the water, like Noah made the ark

This is a man's, a man's, a man's world
But it wouldn't be nothing, nothing without a woman or a girl

Man thinks about a little baby girls and a baby boys
Man makes them happy 'cause man makes them toys
And after man has made everything, everything he can
You know that man makes money to buy from other man

This is a man's world
But it wouldn't be nothing, nothing without a woman or a girl

He's lost in the wilderness
He's lost in bitterness

Christina Aguilera did justice to the song in the Grammy tribute in 2007 after Brown's death.
