The Brothers Gallagher had their greatest success with one of the fastest and biggest selling albums in British music history and won the Battle of Britpop. '(What's the Story) Morning Glory?' spent ten weeks at the top of the British album chart and was the number two album for 1995 and 1996. It is behind only 'Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band' and 'Queen's Greatest Hits' and as the largest selling album in the UK. It cemented Oasis as one of the biggest bands in the world.
Noel would express: "It's about getting away from the shitty, boring life of Manchester. The first album is about dreaming of being a pop star in a band. The second album is about actually being a pop star in a band ... This is about being in a group. It's a massive step forward for us. Some people aren't going to like it because they're just going to want more songs like 'Cigarettes and Alcohol' or 'Supersonic.' The band has changed a lot, and there's a different vibe. We released Tony [McCarroll, drummer] because he wasn't that good. We had some of the best drum tutors in the country, and they just said he wasn't very good. ... But I believe in fate. It had to happen for us from the first sessions of Definitely Maybe."

'Wonderwall' was inspired by the album by George Harrison. The single became a worldwide smash reaching number one in Australia, New Zealand, Spain, and the Canadian and US Alternative charts and the top five in several countries.
Noel: "The meaning of that song was taken away from me by the media who jumped on it. How do you tell your Mrs it's not about her once she's read it is? It's a song about an imaginary friend who's gonna come and save you from yourself."
Liam: "A wonderwall can be anything. It's just a beautiful word. It's like looking for that bus ticket, and you're trying to fucking find it, that bastard, and you finally find it and you pull it out, 'Fucking mega, that is me wonderwall.'"

"Today is gonna be the day that they're gonna throw it back to you
By now you shoulda, somehow, realized what you gotta do
I don't believe that anybody feels the way I do about you now"
'Don't Look Back in Anger' was the first time songwriter and guitarist Noel sang lead vocals. The process of recording it caused so much tension between the brothers that a drunken fight ensued and led to a temporary breakup of the band. It went to number one in the UK.
"I'm gonna start a revolution from my bed
'cause you said the brains I had went to my head
Step outside, 'cause summertime's in bloom
Stand up beside the fireplace
Take that look from off your face
'cause you ain't ever gonna burn my heart out"
'Some Might Say' was the first single and it topped the UK charts.
"Some might say they don't believe in heaven
Go and tell it to the man who lives in hell
Some might say you get what you've been given
If you don't get yours I won't get mine as well
Some might say we will find a brighter day"
'Morning Glory'
"All your dreams are made
When you're chained to the mirror of your razor blade
Today's the day that all the world will see
Another sunny afternoon
Walking to the sound of my favorite tune
Tomorrow doesn't know what it doesn't know too soon"
'Champagne Supernova' went to number one on the US Modern Rock chart.
"How many special people change?
How many lives are living strange?
Where were you while we were getting high?"
