Elvis Presley had chills and his first UK number one with this bouncy number about the tongue-tied, heart palpitatin', weak-in-the-knees, kind of love that scares us to death. 'All Shook Up' was composed by Presley and Otis Blackwell. Elvis said in an interview: "I've never even had an idea for a song. Just once, maybe. I went to bed one night, had quite a dream, and woke up all shook up. I phoned a pal and told him about it. By morning, he had a new song, 'All Shook Up'." Blackwell says he got the idea from Al Stanton at Shalimar Music: "He walked in one day with a bottle of Pepsi, shaking it, as they did at the time, and said. 'Otis, I've got an idea. Why don't you write a song called 'All Shook up'?'. Two days later I brought the song in and said,'Look, man. I did something with it.' After that song the agreement about sharing song writing credit was washed. We had both proved how good we were and had a good thing between the two of us." The single was recorded at Radio Recorders in Hollywood. 'All Shook Up' went to number one in the UK for seven weeks, the US R&B chart for four weeks, and spent eight weeks at the top of the US pop chart, making it his second-biggest hit behind 'Don't Be Cruel'; which was another song he shared writing credit with Blackwell. Presley's manager Colonel Tom Parker would often make it a requirement that Presley get a songwriting credit in exchange for recording the song; so that they could collect royalties.
