fly like an eagle

The Steve Miller Band reached new heights with this album of bluesy jams, infectious rock grooves, and atmospheric space rock. After the success of 'The Joker', Miller took two years recording 'Fly Like An Eagle'. The album went on to sell four million copies and peaked at number three on the album chart.

The transcendent title track went to number two on the US charts. The synthesizer used for 'Space Intro' was purchased by Miller at a local music store, reported to be "The trashiest synthesizer in the store", and costing only $190. The guitar work was based on an earlier Steve Miller song, 'My Dark Hour.' "'Fly Like An Eagle' is always about 12 minutes long (in concert). We have always built our recordings so they have room for spontaneity. My Jazz and Blues influence is what started us as a Jam Band originally. 'Fly Like An Eagle' was developed over a period of time as a jam. To me it's much more interesting to see a musician be spontaneous than it is to see someone perform perfectly something they do note for note the same way every night."

"Time keeps on slippin', slippin', slippin'
Into the future"

'Wild Mountain Honey'

"Come on children
Now learn how to run
By heaven, the stars, the moon and the sun"

The slaphappy Bonnie and Clyde sendoff 'Take The Money And Run' was the first single from the album. It peaked at number eleven on the US charts.

"They got the money, hey
You know they got away
They headed down south and they're still running today "

'Rock'n Me'
The second of three number one singles by the Steve Miller Band, after 'The Joker' and before 'Abracadabra'. The intro to the song was intended as a tribute to Free's 'All Right Now'.

"Well, I ain't superstitious
And I don't get suspicious
But my woman is a friend of mine
And I know that it's true that all the things that I do
Will come back to me in my sweet time"
