over-nite sensation

Frank Zappa became a mental floss tycoon and struck gold with the seedy and slimy satirical stupidity of this jazzy art rock uproar.  After the artistic triumph of 'The Grand Wazoo',  Zappa formed DiscReet Records with his manager Herb Cohen.

Zappa produced the sessions for 'Over-Nite Sensation' at Bolic Sound in Inglewood, Whitney in Glendale, and Paramount in Los Angeles.  The album features Frank Zappa on guitar and vocals (on all tracks except "Fifty-Fifty" and most of "Zomby Woof"); Kin Vassy on vocals on "I'm the Slime", "Dinah-Moe Humm", and "Montana"; Ricky Lancelotti on vocals on "Fifty-Fifty" and "Zomby Woof"; Sal Marquez on trumpet and vocals on "Dinah-Moe Humm"; Ian Underwood on clarinet, flute, alto saxophone, and tenor saxophone; Bruce Fowler on trombone; Ruth Underwood on percussion, marimba, and vibraphone; Jean-Luc Ponty on violin and baritone violin; George Duke on synthesizer and keyboards; Tom Fowler on bass; and Ralph Humphrey on drums; with uncredited backing vocals from Tina Turner and the Ikettes.

'Over-Nite Sensation' reached number thirty-two in the US and fourteen in Norway; and became his first gold record.  It was released in four channel quadraphonic sound as well as conventional two channel stereo.
