blue moon

The Marcels reinvented this ballad, took it to the top of the charts, and put the bomp in the bom-a-bomp. They recorded this at the last minute when they needed another song. They learned it in about an hour and had it done in two takes. The intro was borrowed from another song they had in their repertoire. Richard Rodgers and Lorenz Hart wrote it for the 1934 movie 'Manhattan Melodrama'. Rodgers hated the Marcels' doo-wop arrangement of this song so much that he took out advertisements in the music papers urging people not to buy it.

Bom-ma-bom, a-bom-bom-a-bom, ba-ba-bom-bom-a-bomp,
b-dang-a-dang-dang, b-ding-a-dong-ding.

Blue moon, blue moon, blue moon,
Dip-de-dip-de-dip.
Blue moon, blue moon, blue moon,
Dip-de-dip-de-dip.
Blue moon, blue moon, blue moon,
Dip-de-dip-de-dip.

Bom-ma-bom, a-bom-bom-a-bom, ba-ba-bom-bom-a-bomp,
b-dang-a-dang-dang, b-ding-a-dong-ding.

Blue Moon, you saw me standing alone.
Without a dream in my heart.
Without a love of my own.

Bom-ma-bom, a-bom-bom-a-bom, ba-ba-bom-bom-a-bomp,
b-dang-a-dang-dang, b-ding-a-dong-ding.

Blue Moon, you knew just what I was there for.
You heard me saying a prayer for.
Someone I really could care for.

(Wow, wow, wow, wow.)

And then there suddenly appeared before me. (do-doop)
The only one my arms will ever hold. (do-doop)
I heard somebody whisper, "Please adore me." (do-doop)
And when I looked, the moon had turned to gold. (do-doop)

(Oh-oh-oh.)

Blue Moon, now I'm no longer alone.
Without a dream in my heart.
Without a love of my own.

Bom-ma-bom, a-bom-bom-a-bom, ba-ba-bom-bom-a-bomp,
b-dang-a-dang-dang, b-ding-a-dong-ding.

Oh-oh-oh, oh-oh-oh, oh-oh-oh-oh-oh...

Bom-ma-bom, a-bom-bom-a-bom, ba-ba-bom-bom-a-bomp,
b-dang-a-dang-dang, b-ding-a-dong-ding.

Ah-ah-ah, ah-ah-ah, ah-ah-ah-ah-ah...

Blue moon....

Bom-ma-bom, a-bom-bom-a-bom, ba-ba-bom-bom-a-bomp,
b-dang-a-dang-dang, b-ding-a-dong-ding.

Blue moon!
