Frank Sinatra had a little grit in his voice for this cheeky reflection of resilience. Dean Kay and Kelly Gordon wrote 'That's Life' just for him; and it became the title track for his next album. The lyrics evoke the cycles of achievement and disappointment in Sinatra's own life. After recording the song, producer Jimmy Bowen made Frank mad when he insisted he get out of his car and do another take. Bowen wanted a little more fire in the song, and he got it. 'That's Life' went to number four on the pop chart and spent three weeks at the top of the Adult Contemporary chart.
