you're living all over me

Dinosaur became Dinosaur Jr. and found the perfect expression of indie rock angst with the lumbering emo grunge guitar fury of this fabulously flawed lo-fi slacker landmark. 'You're Living All Over Me' was produced by Wharton Tiers in New York with J Mascis on guitar, percussion, and vocals; Lou Barlow on bass guitar, ukelele, vocals, and tape; and Murph on drums. Sonic Youth's Lee Ranaldo provides backing vocals on the album opener 'Furry Little Things'. Mascis brings an emotional urgency to his drawling vocals and his guitar work redefines the possiblities of alternative rock.


When the album was finished, the band decided to release it on SST Records instead of Homestead, which had released their eponymous debut. Mascis remembers:  "That's the one where everything came together...When the stars align and everything comes together. And, you know, we had a goal, which was to get on SST Records. So we made that record on SST. Where do you go when you've achieved your goal?"

'You're Living All Over Me' was originally released under the name Dinosaur; but a San Francisco supergroup already had the name and sued them over it, so the "Jr." was added.
