i can see clearly now

Johnny Nash had no obstacles to success with this bright reggae classic.  'I Can See Clearly Now' was written and produced by Nash in London with members of the Jamaican group the Fabulous Five.  During the sessions he worked with Bob Marley who co-wrote 'You Poured Sugar on Me' with Nash for the 'I Can See Clearly Now' album, which included four Marley covers as well.

Despite such credentials, Nash has denied that he is a reggae artist:  "Somebody else started that rumor.  Being a reggae singer for me is something new that somebody has suggested.  I would just like for them to explain it to me and just explain what it really is and maybe I can consider it...At one time the BBC would not play it at all.  It had a bad aura about it.  The music itself was put down and had a hard time in both England and America."

'I Can See Clearly Now' helped to bring reggae music into the mainstream.  It sold over a million copies and went to number fifty-four in the UK, nine in Ireland, five in the UK, number one in Canada and spent four weeks on the top of the US pop chart.

I can see clearly now, the rain is gone,
I can see all obstacles in my way
Gone are the dark clouds that had me blind
It’s gonna be a bright (bright), bright (bright)
Sun-shiny day.

I think I can make it now, the pain is gone
All of the bad feelings have disappeared
Here is the rainbow I’ve been prayin' for
It’s gonna be a bright (bright), bright (bright)
Sun-shiny day.

Look all around, there’s nothin' but blue skies
Look straight ahead, nothin' but blue skies

I can see clearly now, the rain is gone,
I can see all obstacles in my way
Gone are the dark clouds that had me blind
It’s gonna be a bright (bright), bright (bright)
Sun-shiny day.
