Frank Sinatra took us on a musical trip around the world with style and swagger on the jet-setting exotic get-away of his first collaboration with Billy May. 'Come Fly With Me' was conceived as a travel concept album with songs about tourist destinations all over the globe. Voyle Gilmore produced the sessions at Capitol Studio A in Hollywood. May's arrangements bring together Sinatra's diverse styles for this eclectic collection of old standards and new tunes. Sinatra commissioned Sammy Cahn and Jimmy Van Heusen to write the title song which sets up the theme. The songs alternate between ballads with strings and big band swing numbers orchestrated by Billy May with his orchestra. Sinatra thought the album cover looked like an advertisement for an airline; but the music was a big success. 'Come Fly With Me' went to number two in the UK and number one in the US, where it stayed for five weeks. At the first Grammy Awards in 1959 the album was nominated for Album of the Year, Best Arrangement, and Best Album Cover.

"Come Fly with Me"
Come fly with me, let's fly, let's fly away
If you can use some exotic booze
There's a bar in far Bombay
Come on and fly with me, let's fly, let's fly away
Come fly with me, let's float down to Peru
In llama land there's a one-man band
And he'll toot his flute for you
Come on fly with me, let's take off in the blue
Once I get you up there where the air is rarified
We'll just glide, starry-eyed
Once I get you up there I'll be holding you so near
You may hear all the angels cheer 'cause we're together
Weather-wise it's such a lovely day
Just say the words and we'll beat the birds
Down to Acapulco Bay
It's perfect for a flying honeymoon, they say
Come fly with me, let's fly, let's fly away
Once I get you up there where the air is rarified
We'll just glide, starry-eyed
Once I get you up there I'll be holding you so very near
You may even hear a whole gang cheer 'cause we're together
Weather-wise it's such a cool cool day
You just say those words and we'll beat the birds
Down to Acapulco Bay
It's so perfect for a flying honeymoon, oh babe
Come fly with me, let's fly, let's fly
Pack up, let's fly away!!
And don´t tell your mamma!!
Pack a small bag!
"Around the World"
"On the Road to Mandalay" is based on Rudyard Kipling's poem Mandalay. It was removed from later pressings because the Kipling family objected to Sinatra's interpretation of the poem.
"London By Night"
Frank Sinatra-London By Night
'French Foreign Legion' replaced 'On the Road to Mandalay' in some parts of the UK.
'It Happened in Monterey' was another replacement for "On the Road to Mandalay"
