Sade deepened her soulful fusion of jazz and pop with the lush and sensual grooves of this captivating collection. With Sade Adu on vocals, production, and arrangements; Andrew Hale on keyboards; Stuart Matthewman on guitar and saxophone; and Paul S. Denman on bass; 'Love Deluxe' was recorded at Studio Condulmer in Venice, Italy; Ridge Farm in Surrey, England; The Hit Factory in London, England; and Image Recording in Los Angeles, California.  The sessions also included Leroy Osbourne on vocals; Martin Ditcham on drums and percussion; Anthony Pleeth on cello; Gavyn Wright as orchestra leader; and Nick Ingman on string arrangements.  

Sade co-produced the album with engineer Mike Pela:  "We've always worked with the same engineer; but we decided we wanted to work without a producer...We understood ourselves better...We approached 'Love Deluxe' sort of quite blindly in a way like when we made 'Diamond Life'.  It was a certain amount of innocence.  We were quite adventurous...I think we need a break in order to want to make another album."

'Love Deluxe' went to number fourteen in Germany, thirteen in Australia, eleven in Austria, ten in the Netherlands and the UK, seven in Sweden, six in Switzerland, three in the US, and number two on the US R&B album chart.  Sade says:   "The definition of the title, the idea is:  it's one of the few luxury things you can't buy.  You can buy any kind of love; but you can't get love deluxe...It is sort of raw and stark...The songs come from inside me, inside my life.  I sort of dig around and find the stories hidden there somewhere.  Sometimes things just come almost magically into my mind.  Sometimes I see something and I'm just compelled to write about it.  Other times they're just pure fantasy."
