i ran (so far away)

A Flock of Seagulls reached the apex of their success with this soaring new wave classic about alien abduction.  Brothers Mike and Ali Score formed the band in Liverpool and eventually teamed up with Frank Maudsley on bass and Paul Reynolds on guitar.  They took their name from the line of the song 'Toiler on the Sea' by the Stranglers.   After minimal success on indie and dance charts, the band finally broke through with their third single 'I Ran (So Far Away)'.   The song opens their eponymous debut concept album that follows a storyline about an alien invasion and leads into the equally transcendent 'Space Age Love Song'.  The extended opening of 'I Ran (So Far Away)' was truncated for the single release and video, which received heavy airplay on the fledgling MTV.  The set of the video was covered in mirrors and aluminum foil as a tribute to the album cover of '(No Pussyfooting)' by Brian Eno and Robert Fripp.  Keyboardist and lead singer Mike Score and Maudsley were both hairdressers before forming the band and became famous for his distinctive hairstyles.   The stylish dance pop of 'I Ran (So Far Away)' became a worldwide phenomenon, reaching forty-six in the Netherlands, forty-three in the UK, thirty-one in Germany, nine on the US pop chart, eight on the US dance chart, seven in New Zealand, three on the US mainstream rock chart, and number one in Australia.

Flock Of Seagulls - I Ran (So Far Away) by hushhush112

I walked along the avenue.
I never thought I'd meet a girl like you;
Meet a girl like you.
With auburn hair and tawny eyes;
The kind of eyes that hypnotize me through;
Hypnotize me through.
And I ran, I ran so far away.
I just ran, I ran all night and day.
I couldn't get away.

A cloud appears above your head;
A beam of light comes shining down on you,
Shining down on you.
The cloud is moving nearer still.
Aurora borealis comes in view;
Aurora comes in view.
And I ran, I ran so far away.
I just ran, I ran all night and day.
I couldn't get away.

Reached out a hand to touch your face;
You're slowly disappearing from my view;
Disappearing from my view.
Reached out a hand to try again;
I'm floating in a beam of light with you;
A beam of light with you.
And I ran, I ran so far away.
I just ran, I ran all night and day.
I couldn't get away.
