Andy Gibb turned the key on his career with this dramatic, disco flavored celebration of his marriage.  'I Just Want to Be Your Everything'  was written with the help of his big brother Barry while they were in Bermuda.  The eighteen year old Andy had just gotten married to Kim Reeder before moving to California to start his recording career.   He had spent a couple of years in Australia honing his craft until Bee Gee's producer Robert Stigwood decided he was ready to take on America.  

It was his first single from his debut album 'Flowing Rivers', which was recorded at Criteria Studios in Miami, Florida at the same time as the Eagles' 'Hotel California'.   Joe Walsh even played guitar on 'I Just Want to Be Your Everything'.  Barry Gibb, Albhy Galuten, and Karl Richardson shared production duties.  Barry remembers: "That was Andy at his best. At that age, wanting to be successful, not having the success but having the hunger, and music was all, music was everything."  

Andy said:  "I was very much into what the Bee Gees were doing. I was very much inspired by their writing...The fact that it might do well I feel very happy about that.  l just keep praying and hoping that it will. The actual thought of being a star I'd say it appeals to me. I'd say it's what I want. It would be a lie to say it wasn't an ego thing. It is an ego thing, it feels great to be up there."


'I Just Want to Be Your Everything' went to the top of the charts in the US within six months of Andy's relocation there.  It spent three weeks at number one, then stayed in the top ten for four more before retaking the top spot again for another week; spending a total of twenty-three weeks on the Hot 100.  It also went to number twenty-six in the UK; nineteen on the US black singles chart, eight on the US adult contemporary chart, two in New Zealand, and number one in Australia.  Andy admitted:   "I believe I owe it chiefly to my brothers, who produce my records, my brother Barry, who helps me, you know, if I have a problem in writing any songs, he always puts me on the right direction."
