wonderland by night

Fips had a hit of his own with this dreamy walk in the park. Bert Kaempfert has written and arranged numerous hit songs for others like 'Strangers in the Night' for Frank Sinatra, 'Wooden Heart' for Elvis Presley, and 'Danke Schoen' for Wayne Newton. He even hired a scruffy skiffle band called The Beatles to back Tony Sheridan in what were their very first recordings.

Despite his previous successes, Kaempfert had to take 'Wunderland Bei Nacht' to America when no one in Germany was interested in it. Decca's Milton Gabler realized it's potential and released it. It shot to the top of the charts in the US and was a huge success all over the world, including Germany. Bert Kaempfert and His Orchestra were even voted "Band of the Future" by readers of 'Cashbox' magazine.
