i can hear the heart beating as one
Yo La Tengo had their greatest success with the hazy romance of this sprawling, eclectic tour de force. 'I Can Hear the Heart Beating as One' was recorded with Roger Moutenot at House of David in Nashville. Guitarist and vocalist, Ira Kaplan and his wife, drummer and vocalist, Georgia Hubley finally mesh completely with bassist James McNew, who is for the first time included in the songwriting. Hubley admits: "Now, I feel like the three of us are more like one personality." The effect is a seemless blend of styles from folk to rock to shoegaze to noise to pop to ambient to bossa nova to electronica. Kaplan quips "Sometimes what may seem like a different influence is really just a different button on the drum machine." 'I Can Hear the Heart Beating as One' sold more than all of their previous albums combined and has been the peak of their critical acclaim.

From the liner notes:
"I see a beach...the waves pounding against the shore. A beautiful girl, her heart beating against her breast. I see a tall, handsome man. Now I see it! Now I see it! I can hear the roar of the Ocean. And finally I can hear the Music of love. I CAN HEAR THE HEART BEATING AS ONE."
